suspension

On the R we combined our ultra responsive Puma suspension platform with a coil shock and more travel to create the ultimate confidence inspiring platform for enduro riders. Downhill, gaining speed, the R sticks to the trail like you never felt before. Small lightweight rockers, an upside-down-shock-mount, less unsprung weight, high quality bearings and the use of high load needle bearings in many pivots make for a highly responsive  layout.

weight

3.32 kg, including cable clamps, headset bearings, seat post clamp and protectors.

drivetrain

The R’s integrated gearbox gives you next generation technology and a worry-free drivetrain. Thanks to the absence of derailleur and cassette your rear wheel is lighter, you have more traction and better control. Both with the DS2 grip shifter and with the optional trigger shifter; shifting is fast, instant and precise.

rider weight

We recommend a maximum rider weight of 100 kg, including clothing, backpack, accessories, etc. to take full advantage of the potential and adjustability of the suspension. Heavier riders may experience an increased sag percentage.

The R is long and slack to give you maximum confidence on fast downhill sections in combination with a coil shock and 160 / 150 mm of travel.

The R features a steep seatpost angle together with an increased reach. The 76° seatpost angle allows you to climb comfortably, keeping weight on the front wheel.

The long reach allows you to feel planted ‘in’ rather than ‘on top’ of your bike. The slack head tube angle, combined with a short fork offset and stem gives you great stability and confidence yet still gets you through a tight switchback.

All sizes are given in millimeters, unless stated otherwise.

compatible shocks

spring calculation

We advise to use the spring calculation from Fox to understand which spring rate you would need.

values

In the spring calculator you will need to fill out some personal preferences and some R frame specific values. Please use the following:

Rear travel (Federweg hinten): 150 mm

Shock travel (Hub des Dämpfers): 55 mm

Load on rear end (Belastung auf den Hinterbau): 65%

Pinion grip shifter

Light, efficient and ergonomically very good. Developed with Ergon. Great for shifting up and down multiple gears at once.

reviews

“The Instinctiv scores points with its plush suspension and central riding position. The Pinion gearbox ensures a low centre of gravity and is beautifully integrated into the frame.”

“Downhill the M97 turns on and purrs smoothly through the terrain. The rear end works first class, responds well and reliably levels even rough passages. There is enough pop available for jumps and sufficient progression for hard landings. As a result, the potent rear end feels like more than 150 mm of travel.”

“Although the Instinctiv M9 only has 140 millimeters of rear travel, it rides extremely smooth and feels like a downhill bike on the trail. Thanks to the Pinion gearbox and a good chain guide, it doesn’t make any noise and is unusually quiet on the descent.”
