When our founder Andreas swung a leg over his first Specialized mountain bike back in 1992, he was hooked forever.
Today he rides mostly in Croatia and owns the industrial design and engineering firm Alskar Design which was founded in 2007. With his senior design team he gained valuable experience in development of bikes and sports products in over 120 demanding projects.
Around 2017 our design team started to develop the first concepts for a line of high-end mountain bikes. This started off with the development of the PUMA suspension, one of the most ground-breaking suspension designs in the mountain bike industry.
During the years 2018 and 2019 we developed, shaped and simulated many concepts and tested the drivetrain, suspension and geometry with prototypes.
After successfully testing multiple carbon prototypes in 2020 on the rocky trails of Croatia, in the EWS and in races in Switzerland, we started small scale in-house production. Instinctiv Bicycles was born as a separate company and started the first sales of bikes in 2021.
Alskar Design continues to be a cutting edge engineering and design firm with customers in the bike, sports and medical industry.
“The Kodiak 140 scores points with its plush suspension and central riding position. The Pinion gearbox ensures a low centre of gravity and is beautifully integrated into the frame.”
“Downhill the Kodiak MX turns on and purrs smoothly through the terrain. The rear end works first class, responds well and reliably levels even rough passages. There is enough pop available for jumps and sufficient progression for hard landings. As a result, the potent rear end feels like more than 150 mm of travel.”
“This bike is surely the most successful machine that we have been able to test with this type of transmission. It is totally consistent with its program, whether in terms of the suspension quality, the geometry, mass distribution or the finish.”
“Although the Kodiak 140 only has 140 millimeters of rear travel, it rides extremely smooth and feels like a downhill bike on the trail. Thanks to the Pinion gearbox and a good chain guide, it doesn’t make any noise and is unusually quiet on the descent.”
Our head quarter is located in Amsterdam, where we have our team of bike designers, highly skilled engineers and production mechanics.
We have over fifteen years of experience in development of highly complex products, many of them bikes and ebikes. We develop concepts, design kinematics, run simulations, use advanced 3D CAD programs to develop our frames and build prototypes.
For extensive performance testing we use locations in Croatia. If frames and components survive there, they will pretty much survive anything.
From our testing center we ride our prototypes on Alpine trails in Jamnica (SI) and on the rockiest trails of UCI Premantura (HR), UCI Kamenjak (HR) and Rabac (HR).
Apart from these testing locations, we have other riders test our bikes in Spain and Switzerland, participating in Enduro races and the EWS.
built in Europe
All our bikes are built to order in the Netherlands. We are not part of a large group, but fully independent. All we do is small scale, without investors, without loans and with little marketing. We rather use our time and funds to develop the next line of great bikes.
production / senior engineer
production / accounting
production / senior designer
We build our bikes fully in-house with our own people. Only the raw carbon parts are coming from Asia.
Quality checks on all parts is done in-house, high-quality custom coating is done in the Netherlands and also the assembly of frames, bearings and full bikes we all do in house.
